A manufacturer's statement of origin, often called an MSO or MCO, is usually the original ownership document for a new vehicle before a state title is issued.
Plain English: MSO is often pre-title paperwork, not the same thing as a normal used-car title.
Where you see it
- New cars, motorcycles, trailers, RVs, powersports vehicles, and specialty vehicles.
- Dealer-to-buyer first registration.
- Kit, trailer, or imported vehicle paperwork.
- Vehicles never titled before.
What to check
- VIN matches the vehicle exactly.
- Dealer or manufacturer assignment is complete.
- Odometer statement is handled if required.
- Taxes, fees, and title application path are clear.
